Where to start with online visibility

WHERE TO START WITH ONLINE VISIBILITY

As we head into the new year - there’s one question on all of our minds:

How do I get seen by more people to grow my business in 2018?

I totally understand your struggle and am here to help you get back to basics, simplify your aim and help you put together an actionable strategy to grow your visibility over the next few months.

Before we move on to the big leagues, let’s start at the beginning with...

YOUR MISSION STATEMENT

Yes, you may have written yours years ago, but it’s always a good idea to review.

If you're new to mission statements, they’re very simple. Just a 1-2 sentence description of what you do, broken down like this:

I’m a {title} who helps {ideal client} {pain or pleasure point} so that they can {ideal client’s goal}.

For example: Michelle Lewis, founder of Visibility Vixen® is a Visibility Expert who specializes in helping launching entrepreneurs skyrocket their visibility, monetize their success and bring their unique message into the online space.

The reason I want you to go back over this is so you can refresh, review and laser in on exactly what you should be speaking about on social media, what products you should offer and how you should shape your story.

YOUR STORY

There’s absolutely nothing exciting about being a stream of sales pitches online. I know a lot of experts say to “sell, sell, sell”, but I believe that’s a one way ticket to unsubscribes and eye rolls. Instead, sell through your story.

After examining your beautifully polished mission statement, let’s look at the common themes.

  • What you specialize in

  • What pain points you help alleviate

  • What goals you help them achieve

This is where it starts to get exciting because you’re able to qualify yourself as the absolute expert in your field.

I’d love for you to write out the answers to the following:

  • What struggle/challenge did you face to come into your specialty?

  • What are some painful moments you dealt with along the way?

  • What did you change to come to the other side and start seeing success?

Um, hello - you’ve got some beautiful social media/newsletter copy right there!

But seriously, these are the types of language I want you to get used to sharing so that your visibility strategy can fall effortlessly into place.

YOUR STRATEGY

Now, let’s look at how to get you actually seen by the masses. Since PR is a whole nother beast {which I’ll be helping you with in February, 2018}, let’s focus on what you can do for yourself.

The free platforms you have at your disposal are:

  • Facebook {pages, groups}

  • Twitter

  • Instagram

  • LinkedIn

  • Youtube

  • Pinterest

You may be saying, ‘Michelle, I’ve been on facebook for years, it doesn’t work for me!'. I hear you, and there are two things that might be happening here.

  1. It’s not the platform your audience lives on.

  2. You’re not focusing on implementing a thought-out strategy.

For the sake of this blog, I’m going to focus on issue #2: the right strategy.

Whatever platform you’ve decided to focus on for 2018 {make sure your audience is there}, I want you to start planning your content in advance.

Choose 2 of the following:

  • Blog

  • Social Media Post

  • Video

  • Livestream

Ok, now you’re going to devote time over the next week to plan out content using 2 of these options to fill out an entire MONTH - yep, a whole month.

That means that if you’ve chosen blogs and social media, you’ll be creating:

  • 4 blogs

  • 31 posts for instagram

This will keep your visibility high because your posts will be showing up in Instagram {with hashtags included of course} every single day. Your audience will get used to seeing you and start raising your brand awareness.

You’ll be giving valuable content with your blogs every single week - which you can send out to your newsletter.

The most important part of your visibility strategy is consistency. So, instead of playing catch up, give yourself time to plan this all out, upload it in advance and breathe a huge sigh of relief!

This way, you can focus on engagement, product creation and actually having time to go to the store or wash your hair!
