What would you say to someone who says “I can not start a YouTube channel because I already have too much going on (social media, etc.)?”

  • It’s going to save you time (YouTube is hub of content)
  • It will heighten your traffic because it will be flowing from social media, to your website, to your channel on repeat
  • You can create 1 video for all sites (Facebook, Pinterest, twitter, email, etc.), making your content creation process more simple

For a first time YouTube user, what are your tips so their videos are seen by customers?

  • Do your research in advance. Know what your audience wants to see.
  • Look up keywords on YouTube. YT will show you what is most popular right now or what people are searching for.
  • 1 – 2 paragraphs to describe your videos
  • Thumbnail (use your own) is really important. Start thinking about that before you even fil
  • Make the text stand out
  • Match your title and thumbnail and make it interesting so people wanna click it
  • You can batch videos by filming them all at once

How do you compete with other people who have tons of subscribers?

  • Focus on your content. Make sure once they click on your video, they wanna watch the whole thing and not just a few seconds
  • Important to have an outside social media and email strategy
  • When people watch your video first and then someone else’s, you are getting credit for that and YouTube is going to promote your video
  • Don’t worry about their subscriber numbers. They might not have followers on other social media sides

What practices do you recommend in order to actually batch up to 12 videos in one day (whaaat?!?!)

  • Have a plan. Script out the video (hook, content) in advance
  • Checklist
  • Refresh / take a walk / watch Netflix for a break and get back at it
  • Reward yourself when you get the 12 done
  • Start linking your YouTube video everywhere.
  • Do teaser clips.

FEELING LIKE YOU NEED TO BE PERFECT ON LIVESTREAMS:

  • You can't be perfect on a livestream, it's impossible, something will go wrong
  • People will actually relate to you more the less perfect your lives are!

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE "JUST DO IT" STRATEGY?

  • Throwing yourself into doing a live won't resolve those fears
  • Dig into those fears to figure out what the wounds are behind the scenes that make you feel like you can't get on camera
  • Recommendation: Broken Children, Grown Up Pain
  • If you're injured before teenage years, you don't have the chemicals to understand that it's not your fault
  • It's important to dig into these wounds because they will try to keep you from being visible because it "isn't safe"
  • It's our job to do the most work we can on ourselves so that our audience can truly see who we are + how we can help

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T BE OBSESSED WITH VIEWS:

  • The most powerful person you should talk to when you go live is your old self
  • The audience you're serving is where you used to be
  • Your #1 job is to be that forward-moving train that is obsessed with being that thought leader to impact the world....that is more attractive than anything else
  • The views will come, the strategy will come
  • Your brilliance in your message is owning that connection

WHAT IF I FORGET OR FREEZE UP?

  • You absolutely will mess up, freeze up or forget
  • Put a bottom to your fear
  • Go in with a game plan, outline your live, keep it close to your livestreaming device

WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIALS OF LIVESTREAMING?

  • A dependable connection/device
  • Good lighting

053 | BAILEY RICHERT | Hosting Your First Online Summit

For years Bailey Richert was caught up in the 'rat race' as she followed what she was taught was the 'right path' in life. A high school valedictorian and magna cum laude engineering university graduate, Bailey took a job for many years working the 9-to-5 consulting grind in California. To most, it must have seemed like she 'had it all', but she wasn't anywhere near being fulfilled. The cubicle life would never allow her to achieve the dreams, goals and ambitions she had.

So she decided to make a change.

In 2013, Bailey left her corporate career, studied entrepreneurship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and launched her own online, location independent business with the goal of earning her own income from anywhere in the world. What is stage 0 to hosting a mini workshop / mini summit and building my list? What is the behind the scenes prep work before you even start the workshop?

  • 12 step process (3 phases): each phase takes a month for big summits
  • Planning logistics (sit down before you take action): how many days, what are the dates, what is the theme, name of the event (don’t bring in speakers before you know what the theme is)

How would you put the fears of failure to rest? And how do you attract the right speakers?

  • A lot of people might say no, but it doesn’t mean that you or your event are not worth it (people might be busy and wouldn’t have time to be a real partner, or there might be personal things going on, or they might say no because they don’t know you yet, etc.)

  • If they say no, maybe ask if you can interview them for your podcast, start building a relationship

  • How to actually reach out to them: Never over social media (connecting is ok though, but not
    invite)
    , email them. Include personal connection to show that you genuinely care about them and their projects (“I followed your blog and this article resonated with me”, etc.).

 

As a host, you should welcome genuine feedback from the speakers you invite.

 

What Michelle has been going thru (with hosting her first summit)

  • Wanted to film in person with all entrepreneurs in one place (constantly changing dates)
    - Didn’t feel like it would work out. Melodrama. Thoughts of failure.
    - Reinvent yourself: Film in different segments when speakers have time, edit it together like a movie.

  • And that worked!
    - Be authentic to yourself
    - Go with the flow and don’t get stuck on what you think something has to look like or be done like


 

What are some good tips in terms of you staying healthy, sleeping, staying energized, etc. when
running the (virtual) summit? How do you keep it together?

  • Pre record
  • Automate absolutely everything (emails, promotions, social media)
  • Get some help / support / outsource (facebook ads manager, techy VA, customer service emails, other business owners or individual)

Wins that you, your guests or customers have experienced

  • All 3 should feel like they benefit
    - Attendees: Free training, discover new influencers, Freebies from guest speakers
    - Guest speakers: exposure, testimonials, connecting with other influencers (new business
    connections)
    , grow their list (newsletter, FB group, etc.)
    - Host: Benefit the most. Grow email list, sometimes profit (all access pass, notes), new relationships with guest speakers, new clients for coaching and courses, and things like this where you get to be on a podcast. 

How do you make YOUR summit intriguing / shiny so people think they NEED this value

  • Going back to the planning phase: Who is your target audience? Don’t invite the “wrong” speakers
  • What is your content? People don’t want to buy an all access if most of the content is not what they need
  • Up the value of your all access pass (Free interviews, premium interviews that you can only get with the pass, downloadable audio)
  • What is a software you love / recommend to use if someone is just starting out?
    - Sales funnel technology
    - Clickfunnels (all in one solution: landing page, sales funnels, online courses, virtual summit)
    - If you use something else, you might have to piecemeal some software and technology together (lead pages, samcart, etc.)

What do you do in the online space?

  • Social media management (for businesses, entrepreneur, network marketing, stand out, get sales, get leads, build connections with your tribe)

 

How did you get into that?

  • Quit my day job 2 years ago (2015). Asked myself: What am I passionate about? What’s my jam?

  • What should I do with my life?

  • I wanna have freedom. But doing what?

  • What I knew: I didn’t wanna be an employee, so I quit.

  • Was there for the first Periscope summit in NYC. Which got me into entrepreneur magazine.Periscope App was my in. Where I became known. Early pioneer. My first email opt in. Made my first dollar.

  • Facebook / Facebook live “replaced” Periscope. Loved that FB was new and that it could make an impact and a regular person could start something. The essence is social media. And that was it!

  • You can build an audience / tribe for the cost of nothing. That’s what got me excited about social media.


It’s ok to fail. You learn and grow with everything you do and learn and you will be able to use it in your entrepreneurship. “Trying” is not a curse word. Don’t sit on the sidelines and waste your time.


How to move forward? I don’t feel like I’m enough. I wouldn’t know how to share my story. How do you take authority over your story? How do you step into that space of entrepreneurship / speaking?

  • Repetition is huge

  • Practical step: Google search “Toastmasters” to practice speaking (feedback from peers in a safe environment)

  • Your whole life is content. You DO have something to say

The last time I had Angie on the show, she told me she used to have a podcast and now she’s re-started it! She’s someone I’ve watched for a long time online and I basically just messaged her asking if she wanted to be friends. Spoiler: she said yes!

Angie is so gifted at bringing her message to her audience. She’s a business and life strategist for wellpreneurs and life coaches. Angie is also one of the lovely ladies behind the Wellpreneur Business Academy.

We’re focusing on your message this week. It’s so integral to produce content and being able to do it over and over again. I ask Angie how she puts out content EVERY DAY without getting burnt out and WOW does she give us amazing advice.

Steps To Creating Consistent Content

  • Realize creativity is not an exhaustible resource. Collect your ideas wherever you get them. Get out of your space and let the creativity flow.

  • End the perfectionist struggle with your videos and just have a good time!

  • Your environment plays a huge role in your creativity. Make small or big changes, so you feel good.

 

Building Your Legacy

  • Continually speak to your audience. Ask them constantly what their problems are and turn that into content.

  • Lighting is key to creating quality videos. Angie films a video during a certain time of day when lighting is the best.

  • Don’t try too hard on video. You don’t have to look picture perfect. You’re a real person!
